Ensemble LA PASSIONE

Ensemble LA PASSIONE

The LA PASSIONE ensemble is the offshoot of the Heidelberg Symphony Orchestra dedicated to the greatest possible authenticity of sound in the performance of early music. For Thomas Fey and the members of the orchestra the establishment of this ensemble was the fulfillment of a long-cherished dream, that of performing baroque music exclusively on original instruments.

The ensemble made its debut to great acclaim at the music festival of the same name, LA PASSIONE, in 2003. In the same year it committed three of Händel’s Concerti Grossi to CD. The recording also included a fourth Concerto Grosso set down in 2004 and appeared on the Accent label.

So many of the members of the Heidelberg Symphony Orchestra are familiar with the style of playing required by historical instruments that the LA PASSIONE baroque ensemble can be fully manned by players from the orchestra.
